‘Hidden Figures Unearthed: Liberating the Christian Voice of British Caribbean Women – A Participative Theology of Identity’ (NTC)
Lydia’s research focuses on the voices and identities of Caribbean women in Britain, specifically Caribbean women of Christian faith, who self-identify as Black and who currently belong to a non-Black majority expression of the Church, or who have substantially been so in the past. Rooted in womanist values and informed by grounded theory, the study utilises a poetic, participative (auto)ethnographic methodology. Her project also seeks to generate a form of indirect intergenerational dialogue between the women she engages. Additionally, the poetic outputs of her qualitative research both support and extend the intended aim of space creation for the voices of the women engaged.
In addition to Womanist theology, Lydia is interested in hospitality, theopoetics, and developing participative and creative (Arts-based) research methodologies. She is also interested in exploring the importance of gathering.
