Ulrike Schuler, Ph.D. (Wuppertal)
Professor of Church History, Methodism, and Ecumenism, Reutlingen School of Theology (Germany)
Professor Schuler has been at Reutlingen since 2003. She has studied at the universities of Cologne and Wuppertal, completing her Ph.D. at the latter in 1997. In addition to her teaching at Reutlingen, she’s served in many interesting roles in the church, including Chairperson of the Historical Commission for the German speaking area (Germany, Austria and Switzerland, 2000-2011), Chairperson of the Historical Commission of the European Council of the United Methodist Church (2004-2013) and President of the World Methodist Historical Society (2011-2016). She has been involved in a number of ecumenical dialogues including the World Methodist Council dialogues with the Salvation Army (2006-2012), the Baptist World Alliance (2014-2018), and The United Methodist Church’s dialogue with the Moravian Church in the USA (2012-2014). She is the UMC delegate in the German Ecumenical Theological Study Group, a committee of the National Council of Churches. She has published more than 50 articles and 3 books. Her main research interests are Free Churches in the context of mainline church in Europe (Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed or Orthodox) as well as pioneer women in early Methodism in Europe and activities of Methodists in the working classes.
